Bruce C. Lindstrom Vice Chairman & Co-FounderBruce's entrepreneurial career has included his management involvement in the earliest stages of three major companies — all dealing with retail and distribution. Bruce was part of the founding group of The Price Company (having merged with Costco), Pace Membership Warehouse (acquired by Wal-Mart as part of Sam’s Club) and finally as President of Corporate Express (most recently acquired by Staples). Having first originated as innovative business concepts, management and finance were brought together to enable these companies to become multi-billion dollar enterprises. All three companies were taken public before being acquired. Today, Bruce, together with his partner, Carl Strickland, are active directors of Point Foundation and focus on strategic and policy related issues. They continue to actively manage other investments, real estate developments and financial concerns. Bruce and Carl live on the shores of Lake Tahoe, Nevada. EducationBA, Political Science, UCLA, 1967 MBA, Finance & Administration, USC, 1970 In his own words"I have always believed that education is one of the principal keys to individual success in life. Education is able to take personal talent and ambition to develop a successful approach to life through knowledge and discipline to lay the foundation for leadership, success, and contribution to the society in which we live. Education helps to provide a basis for deep and personal belief in oneself. I and other countless LGBT youths, found that the lack of tolerance of our sexual orientation by our parents, friends and society and a lack of role models were a hindrance to our ability to gain an education and prosper in our chosen careers. Yet in spite of this lack of tolerance, I and many other gay individuals, have gained positions of leadership, succeeded in life and have contributed to making a more tolerant and caring society. The Point Foundation was founded with an ideal that one’s sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity should not be an obstacle to an education. By supporting this ideal, we are doing more than helping people in need. We are helping to create an opportunity for gay and trans leadership and success all of which, I and others believe, will increase the prospect of a greater and more tolerant society in the future. A society that provides greater opportunities for ALL persons, regardless of sexual orientation, gender expression or gender identity (or any other discriminatory factor), to pursue personal happiness. It is a legacy that many of us want to leave for the future of all gay and trans youths in the world." |
