Amy Andre
University of California at BerkeleyNon-Profit ManagementRaised in Florida, Amy came out as bisexual in her teen years and attended college in a small, segregated Southern town. Although she experienced repeated racial harassment, throughout her school years she maintained a 4.0 GPA, led the LGBT student group, and organized social networks with students of color. After graduating with a BA in psychology, Amy moved to San Francisco and earned a master’s degree in sexuality studies. Recently, she co-authored a ground-breaking publication on bisexual health for the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force. Amy discovered that the health conditions that bisexuals face, particularly in comparison to gays, lesbians, and heterosexuals, are deplorable, indicating that biphobia significantly impacts health. As an activist, Amy has dedicated herself to the needs of bisexuals and to the LGBT community as a whole, having served on the board of directors of two LGBT nonprofit organizations, the Harvey Milk Institute and New Leaf Services. In her work, Amy has traveled across the country, educating thousands of people on LGBT civil rights issues. Her goal is to be the executive director of a national LGBT nonprofit organization, and she is at Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley, pursuing an MBA with an emphasis on nonprofit management. |
