Angela Clements
University of California Berkeley Law School
Public Interest Law
Angela was born and raised in a small farming community in rural Nebraska. She came out to her family conservative Christian evangelicals when she was 19. While at college in Nebraska, she organized students in opposition to an anti-gay constitutional amendment, advocated for a domestic partner health benefits plan for faculty, and became involved in a number of other civil rights issues. As a result of her public service and academic accomplishments, she was named a Truman Scholar and graduated with honors. She went on to work at the Human Rights Campaign as a lobbyist and lobbied for federal legislation to grant protections to the GLBT community, including the Employment Nondiscrimination Act. She also worked to defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2004 and 2006. Currently, Angela is in law school at the University of California Berkeley (Boalt School of Law) and hopes to pursue a career in civil rights law, focusing on LGBT civil rights.
